Anti-Fraud

    Protect Yourself Against Internet Fraud

99% of adverts are posted by honest and trustworthy people. So you can do excellent business with a vast majority of them. Despite this, it is important to follow a few common sense rules to prevent any attempt to scam.

Always Read Seller Reviews & Ratings

Always read reviews & ratings from previous buyers before you buy items. Also check the ratings of each seller to make a decision about their products, delivery time based of what other people have said about them etc.

    Always report abuse to us

There is a button on each product page which you can use to notify the admin of any Fraud or Scam. Please notify us if you notice a scam or send an email to admin@otutu.com.ng with the product title and the seller’s name so that we can ban such seller and his IP forever.

    Be careful

Double check company’s background and look through its website (if they have one) before going into any transaction or interview. Do not submit any upfront fees for a job application. Do not go to the remote or unfamiliar places for an interview. Do not disclose any personal information like bank account number or your photo copy ID. Keep copies of all correspondence (emails, ads, letters, etc.) and details of the person.

    Use common sense

Avoid anything that appears too good to be true, such as unrealistically low prices and promises of quick money.

Never give out your financial information

Including bank card details or BVN details and any other information that could be misused

REFRAIN IF A DEAL SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. THERE IS EVERY CHANCE THAT RIDICULOUSLY CHEAP ITEMS ARE SCAMS.

    Recognise Attempted Scam

The majority of scams have one or more of these characteristics:

    • The person is abroad or traveling abroad.
    • The person refuses to meet you in person.
    • Payment is made through Western Union, Money Gram or check instead of bank account.
    • The messages are in broken language (Pidgin English or French or …).
    • Seller insist you pay cash instead of bank transfer
    • The texts seem to be copied and pasted.
    • The deal seems to be too good to be true.
    • Buyer sends bank alert and seller decide not to check bank transaction
